They are obtained by the steam distillation of aromatic flowers and plants using the same process as for Essential Oils.
To manufacture them, very pure water is required along with a quantity in plant weight which is practically equivalent to the number of litres obtained. The concentration of the active principles which are present in the hydrosols depends on the distilled weight of the plants compared with the volume of hydrosol obtained.
They are very mild products, which are laden with active principles in the form of micro drops. They are suitable for everybody. They can be used internally (consult an aroma-therapist) and externally (Read the information contained under the heading "Our Products, Hydrosols" common uses of the main hydrosols).
Distillation can be applied to plants which are not aromatic plants : cornflower, plantain.
The wording "Floral Waters" is generally reserved for hydrosols which have been obtained by the distillation of the plant flowers (rose, orange tree flower  ...), a question of semantics for specialists.
Due to its command of the distillation process, the Laboratory de COMBE D'ASE is able to guarantee the superior quality of all of its hydrosols. For minimum quantities of 25 litres, we can distil hydrosols when requested.

A cool and dark place, this is the ideal way to ensure an optimum conservation of hydrosols

For a perfect conservation of hydrosols the temperature should not exceed 14°C and they should be kept away from light.
At a higher temperature, certain hydrosols, like the lime blossom are likely to flocculate which disappears either by filtering, or by adding a drop of lavender essential oil. The maximum length of storage under the abovementioned temperature conditions and away from light should nevertheless not exceed one year (refer to the use by dates on our packaging).

Be careful of false hydrosols = false friends

Instead of distillation, certain ancient pharmacopoeias recommended the saturation of distilled water by the essential oil of the plant, either by using a dissolving medium like alcohol, or by increasing the distribution of the essential oil by titration with an inert powder such as talc or kaolin.
Such products are not hydrosols; they do not have either their composition or any of their therapeutic properties: they are simply perfumed water.
The hydrosol of a plant does not have the same properties as the essential oil of the same plant. Consult a therapist or a specialised book.
