Precautions for use of essential oils

You must rigorously comply with the precautions for use of essential oils

Any therapeutical use needs a PROFESSIONAL ADVICE

• Keep the bottles tightly closed away from light and/or a heat source.
• Keep the essential oils out of children's reach. For babies and young children: you should be careful - you must always ask for your doctor's advice first.
• Major restrictions are stipulated for pregnant women (in particular during the first three months of pregnancy) and for mothers who are breastfeeding. It is essential to refer to specialized books and to the doctors'/aroma-therapists' advice.
• People suffering from epilepsy or asthma must comply with the restrictions.
• Essential oils should never be introduced into the auditory canal.
• Direct or indirect contact with the eyes and mucous membranes should be avoided. In the event of accidental contact, rinse the eye out with a vegetable oil.
• Always dilute the essential oils before any internal use (aromatization, dietetics) or external use (massage, cosmetics).
• For people who have a predisposition to allergies, carry out a prior test on the inside of the wrist; wait for 10 minutes and check to see if there is a possible cutaneous reaction.
• Certain essential oils are aggressive on the skin, they are said to be skin-caustic: oregano, strong thymes, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, pepper, savory and lemongrass. They are to be used in very small quantities and highly diluted (15%).
• Citrus fruit Essences which contain furocoumarines are photosensitive; you must avoid using them before any exposure to the sun.
• Mint essential oils are never to be applied on a large surface as they can provoke a «cold shock».
• When using essential oils: ask for advice from a specialist, doctor or aroma-therapist or obtain information by referring to reputed specialized books.
• Comply with the recommended dosages: some essential oils with undeniable therapeutic qualities may be toxic in the event of over dosage. This applies to the following: green anise, star anise, blue arborescent mugwort / white herb, Atlas cedar wood, mild fennel, hedge / officinal hyssop, officinal / dalmatian / clary sage, thuja ... They are generally sold in chemists with a prescription.
• Never absorb essential oils without interruption.
• Never stop the medical treatment that you are taking without consulting your doctor first.
